Top Reasons to Buy a 2014 Kia Soul

The Kia Soul is known for its distinctive style that was created to appeal to a wide audience. Since it was first released in 2009, the Soul has been able to sell itself as a versatile hatchback with a funky appeal. This particular vehicle has been one of the top sellers for automobile manufacturers over the last few years.

2014 was the first time in several years the manufacturer decided to do a major redesign of this particular vehicle in their product line. The goal was to create a new look without diluting the current visual appeal and improving a number of the faults from the 2013 Soul at the same time.

Even and Steady Stop – Even the base model of the 2014 Kia Soul comes equipped with the four-wheel anti-lock brakes. This allows the vehicle to have a stead and even stop.

Most of the other vehicles which fall into the same class come equipped with rear drum brakes which do not provide the same steady and even stop. This is a big benefit to having this vehicle as you won’t feel like you are getting whiplash every time the driver stomps on the brakes.

The Flex-Steer System – The flex-steer system just makes the vehicle comfortable to drive. You get your choice of normal, comfort, or sports mode while you are driving. Some argue the difference between the three modes is hard to sport, but the option is still there.

A Box-Like Design – Whether or not the design of this automobile is a positive is really a matter of personal opinion. Some people love it and other people hate it. There is no curved roof which makes it a little easier to get in and out of the vehicle. This is true even if you happen to be a taller individual.

Automatic Transmission – The base model of this automobile comes equipped with automatic transmission if you want it. While it is optional, this was not an option people had before. You also have Bluetooth and iPod connectivity which are standard regardless of which trim you get.

Remarkable Cabin – The cabin of this automobile is incredible. When you hit small bumps, chances are pretty good you are not even going to be able to tell. This is not a luxury subcompact vehicles usually offer. The noise-dampening windshield is part of the reason the vehicle will provide you with such a silent and comfortable ride.

Safety Features

Safety, Safety, and More Safety – Whether you are buying the car for yourself, your parents, your children, or your spouse – safety matters. The redesigned 2014 model cThe new 2014 Kia Soulomes equipped with two side airbags mounted in the seats, two airbags in the front, and two of the side curtain full-length airbags.

In addition to the airbags, the automobile features electronic stability control which is what gave it the 5-star safety rating the 2013 model was not able to get.

Negative Aspects about the 2014 Soul

Naturally, no vehicle is perfect. It is a good idea to make yourself aware of what some consider to be the downsides of purchasing this vehicle. This way you can make a decision with all of the facts regarding whether or not this is the right choice for you.

Gas Mileage is a Little Lower Than Comparable Alternatives – This automobile gets 24 MPG in the city and 31 on the highway. Unfortunately, this is a little low when you compare it to comparable vehicles. The MNI, for example, gets 28/35 and the Fiat gets 31/40. It is worth mentioning that the MINI is significantly more expensive than the Soul. The Fiat, however, comes in at about the same price.

Limited Additional Features  – The extra features you can enjoy on this automobile are a little limited. For example, the manual transmission is only an option if you want the base model. Some people do not consider this to be a downside as a lot of people do not know how to drive a manual transmission. The limitations also include keyless entry which isn’t an option if you just want the base model. Another pretty big limit is the fact that you can either get the UVO system voice control or the Navigation system, but the vehicle cannot be equipped with both. While these are both great features, drivers consider it to be a bit of a bummer that they cannot have them both.

Visibility Issue – The thick rear pillars are going to make it difficult to see well enough to change lanes with comfort on this automobile. The only way to get around this issue is to invest in the additional rear view cameras which allow you to see everything behind your vehicle while you are driving. In terms of safety, this isn’t a bad investment to make.

2014 Kia Soul – Final Verdict

The 2014 Soul is a nice vehicle that is perfect for a family of four. It was great to see the manufacturer decide to take safety into account when they redesigned this year’s model. There are tons of features for drivers to enjoy. Both in terms of standard features and optional additions. Some of the features are for nothing more than to make the vehicle safer for the driver. The interior of the vehicle makes it practical for average sized adults to sit comfortably in the backseat. The changes to the exterior were hard to notice with this vehicle, but it looks great!
