2013 Acura MDX Honest Review: Must Read!

The 2013 Acura MDX really is a beautiful vehicle. Not only is the vehicle aesthetically pleasing, but it packs “quite a punch” when it comes to acceleration and engine power. Whether your seeking a vehicle perfect for the family, or your looking for a vehicle that has the space of an SUV, with the gas mileage of a sedan (or BOTH of these items), The Acura MDX is an excellent option!

2013 MDXWhy the 2013 Acura MDX is Right for You

This vehicle is the perfect combination between luxury and performance. The MDX is sporting a V6 and AWD drivetrain while the transmission is a 6-speed automatic. But, if you like to remain in control of your vehicle fulltime, it also has an option to shift. Meaning when you move the shifter to the “M” option, you can control at which RPM you want to shift (very cool option in my opinion).

Also equipped on this vehicle is a Bluetooth so you can chat on your phone hands free (avoiding tickets) and has heated seats for those cold morning commutes! The vehicle seats 7 comfortably and has an impressive horsepower of 300 (like I said, its POWERFUL)! In terms of gas mileage the vehicle gets 16 miles per gallon city driving and 21 miles per gallon highway driving; very good for an SUV! The 2013 Acura MDX starts at $40,092 and goes all the up to $52,905.

Safety is a major factor for me when picking a vehicle; therefore I’m sure it’s an important factor for you as well. This vehicle was awarded a “4” star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Even though this is not the highest rating possible, it’s still VERY good. Plus, Acura is making strides everyday to increase there rating to a full “5” stars (through different crash testing).

2013 Acura MDX Reviews

Acura had a very specific goal in mind when creating this vehicle. They wanted to deliver a vehicle that was very reliable; and from expert and consumer reviews, they have accomplished this goal. When this vehicle was first released years ago, consumers were not very happy with the product, but overtime Acura made certain advancements that really struck a nerve with consumers and experts alike – making this vehicle one of the “top rated” vehicles of its time!

A survey was conducted on a group of consumers that purchased and drove this vehicle, and were willing to share their thoughts. They were asked to rate the MDX based on six different parameters: comfort, performance, exterior styling, interior design, value for the money and reliability.

  • 4.4 out of 5 for comfort.
  • 4.5 out of 5 for performance.
  • 4.5 out of 5 for exterior styling.
  • 4.1 out of 5 for interior design.
  • 4.1 out of 5 on value for the money.
  • 4.6 out of 5 for reliability.

The overall rating of the MDX was a 4.4 out of 5 from these consumers.

One of the common complaints about this specific vehicle is the interior design. After further investigation, we can clearly see that the people that rated the interior design the poorest are above average in height (six foot five inches and over).

The all new 2013 Acura MDXThe most common “pro” of owning this vehicle is the reliability it possesses. For example, one of the reviewers mentioned that he lives in Buffalo, NY (very brutal winter, you know if your from there). He said it was one of the coldest mornings of the winter, while his neighbors were struggling to start there vehicle because of the intense cold, his Acura MDX started right up and was off to work!

If you live in an area with inclement weather, this vehicle is clearly an awesome option!

How the MDX has evolved:

When a vehicle is released, the manufacturers tend to upgrade the model every couple years. Instead of releasing a new and improved vehicle under a new name, they simply release a new generation. In regard to the 2013 Acura MDX, there has been three generations in total. Lets take a closer look at the first two:

First Generation:

The first generation was manufactured from 2000 to 2006. The horsepower of the original model was a measly 240 horsepower; the newest version of this vehicle boasts horsepower of 300 plus. The first generation was also very bulky; the newer models have a sleeker design. The MDX has come a long way from the first generation.

Second Generation:

The second generation was produced from 2006 to 2013. Actually, this is the exact model we are reviewing. In my professional opinion, this is when the vehicle was the best! It sports a sleek design and around 60 more horsepower than the 2012 MDX. This generation also has a ton of luxury, standard features. For example, a power moon roof, leather interior and high intensity discharge low beam headlights.

Final Thoughts

With all the luxury features that come standard on the 2013 Acura MDX, it seems like a no brainer this vehicle is for you. Also safety and reliability is “on point” in regard to this vehicle. If your looking for a vehicle that is perfect for driving your family around, or your looking for a vehicle to get you back and forth to work, this vehicle should be in your top five when making a buying decision.

With all the positives surrounding this vehicle, there is also ONE negative. If you are over 6 foot five, this vehicle may be a little tight for you. But otherwise, the vehicle is very comfortable! Acura really outdid themselves with this vehicle. You can be proud to own an MDX and its guaranteed to “turn heads” from your neighbors when you park this “bad boy SUV” in your driveway!
