The Ultimate Vehicle – The 2016 Nissan Leaf!

The new and improved 2016 Nissan Leaf is not just a head turner; it also possesses the electrical power to travel over 84 miles on a full battery charge. New technologies have emerged in the last few years making fully electric vehicles a reality. Many people thought they wouldn’t see a vehicle like the Leaf in there lifetime but here it is. Strap on your seatbelts folks! We have another extensive, comprehensive review for you below.

2016 Leaf Specifications

This specs section is going to be a bit different from our others. Reason being, the Leaf is a fully electric vehicle, so some things we mention might seem a little bit obscure, but bare with us; we will do our absolute best to explain everything adequately. Because this vehicle is fully electric, there is no “miles per gallon” measure; instead it describes how many miles you can get out of a full charged battery.

With that stated, the 2016 Nissan Leaf can travel 126 miles on a full charge in the city and can travel 101 miles on a full charge driving on the highway. Usually, with a conventional vehicle that utilizes fossil fuels (gasoline), vehicles tend to get better mileage on the highway. But because we are dealing with an electric vehicle, when your on the highway, it exerts MUCH more power than it does if you were driving on a city street. For a fully electric vehicle to travel 124 miles without a single drop a gasoline is absolutely incredible (some would even say its revolutionary). In regards to the transmission, it’s only a 1 speed. Because electricity is the power source there is no need for an engine to be shifting gears, it simply starts and runs in one gear!

Now lets discuss some pricing! This vehicle starts at an unbelievably cheap $27,486 and goes all the up to $34,843. The pricing mostly depends on what kind of technology you want on the dashboard of your Leaf along with how comfortable you want to be while driving your new Leaf (heated seats, heated steering wheel, etc).

The 2016 Nissan Leaf is also fairly safe as it was awarded a “4” from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Even though this is not the highest ranking a vehicle can receive, the engineers at Nissan are working very hard to ensure the Leaf receives a “5” in the approaching quarters! I have to believe that part of the reason the Leaf was not awarded a “5” is because of “suspicion” from the testers. For example, the battery used is partly lithium; lithium is known to be unstable in certain situations/conditions. BUT, these conditions are EXTREME, if your thinking of purchasing the Leaf, have no worries, the vehicle is very safe!

2016 Nissan Leaf Reviews

All new 2016 Nissan Leaf

Because the Leaf is one of the first of its kind (being 100% electric), a consumer would expect the vehicle to fall under a lot of scrutiny, but surprisingly, all the experts seem to really love it. First lets discuss the positives the experts had to say.

First off, the vehicle has a very long cruising range for an affordable electric vehicle. The cabin is very quiet which is partly attributed to the vehicle being 100% electric, so you wont hear any engine revving up, or a transmission switching gears. Experts describe all the features as endless as this car is absolutely packed with features! Additionally for a compact vehicle, the 2016 Leaf has a very spacious back seat (actually the whole car is very spacious, tall drivers don’t be scared)!

Furthermore, it is also now available nationwide. Now, at first this doesn’t seem like a huge deal, but because the Leaf is fully electric, you will need to find charging stations. With the acceptance of the vehicle nationwide, you should have no problem finding a charging station when needed.

“What goes up must come down”, with any vehicle there are going to be some negatives, this is no different with the 2016 Nissan Leaf. Some experts have described the acceleration of the Leaf to be slow. What they don’t understand is that the acceleration was designed to be a little slower to conserve the battery life. Also, the driving position can be a little awkward at first, but after a few months of driving it becomes very comfortable. Another drawback that is mentioned (which I don’t see as a drawback at all) is the controls being a little fuzzy (or close together). Literally, there are so many settings and various options on the Leaf; sometimes you may hit the wrong one. This year’s model however, received several new features that make it a surprising upgrade from the 2015 Nissan Leaf.

How has the Leaf Evolved?

With the Leaf series being so new, only one generation has been created. It was first introduced to the North American market in 2010 and at first the concept seemed very foreign to many Americans. But, with fuel prices on an everlasting climb, Americans started to realize there had to be another option; that’s when the Leaf started to gain traction with the US market. Just five years after the introduction, it is the highest selling electric vehicle surpassing 200,000 vehicles sold. Another monumental feature for this vehicle is that it provides absolutely zero emissions. Because the Leaf is 100% electric, it produces zero carbon emissions. Vehicles are the number two contributor to green house gasses; therefore, this is an incredible feature. This “zero emission” theory has fallen under a lot of scrutiny lately though. Reason being, some experts explain that in order to produce one Leaf, the environment experiences twice the amount of emissions to produce a fossil fueled vehicle. In the long run however, this vehicle is obviously a much cleaner alternative to gas guzzling vehicles.

2016 Leaf Final Verdict

The 2016 Nissan Leaf is a revolutionary piece of machinery, but is it the correct vehicle for you? Yes, if you’re fed up with global warming, and want to do your part in stopping this downward spiral fossil fuel powered vehicles have instituted on our world, the Leaf is a perfect option. Its time to do your part, purchase a Leaf and leave the gas-guzzlers in your rear view mirror!
