Detailed Review: 2016 Hyundai Elantra!

Whether you’re looking for a basic Hyundai, or a luxury, more technically advanced model, the 2016 Hyundai Elantra series has something for everyone. There are four different styles of this vehicle: the SE 4dr sedan, the Value Edition 4dr sedan, the sport 4dr sedan, and the Limited 4dr sedan. All four of the models (besides the Sport model) have generally the same specs.

For instance, they all have 145 horsepower at 6500 RPM’s, with 130 pounds of torque per foot at 4,700 RPM’s. The “Sport” edition on the other hand boasts 173 horsepower at 6,500 RPM’s with 154 pounds of torque per foot at 4,700 RPM’s. Also, all the Elantra models come standard with a six speed manual transmission, but if you would prefer a automatic transmission, that’s totally fine! The option of an automatic transmission is available.

Elantra Pricing

The price of this model ranges from $17,250 for the most basic of the Elantra model, all the way to $21,700 for the “Limited” Elantra. The pricing is very fair, considering the Limited version is very advanced and has some features that rival luxury automobile producers like Land Rover and Mercedes. In regards to fuel economy, the Elantra destroys the other cars in its class. The SE 4dr Sedan gets 28 miles per gallon city and 38 miles per gallon highway. The “Sport” edition gets 24 miles per gallon city and 35 miles per gallon highway, the lower gas mileage is expected considering the increase in both horsepower and torque the “sport” edition has.

When it comes to safety, the people at Hyundai made sure to make this vehicle as safe as possible, which (if your anything like me) is very important if you are constantly driving around children and family members. You want to make sure if anything would happen, such as a collision, everyone in the vehicle would be safe. The 2016 Hyundai Elantra was awarded a “5” star safety rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “5” being the highest safety rating possible.

2016 Hyundai Elantra Reviews

Consumers really love the 2016 Elantra. While compiling reviews for this review it was very difficult to find one that was completely negative. Sure, some of the reviews had constructive criticism, but nothing like you usually see (in regards to negative reviews). Here are just a couple quick reviews: “Love my 2016 Hyundai Elantra”- Brittany, “fantastic and fun little car at a low cost”- Roy Smithson. A survey was conducted upon 26, 2016 Hyundai Elantra owners. They were asked to judge the vehicle on a scale of one to five (one being the lowest rating, five being the highest rating). The six feature the owners were asked to provide a rating to are as follows; comfort, interior, value, performance, safety, reliability and technology. Here are the results of the survey…

  • Comfort received a rating of 4.4 out of 5.
  • Interior received a rating of 4.5 out of 5.
  • Value also received a rating of 4.5 out of 5.
  • Performance received a rating of 4.1 out of 5 (this is the only area the Elantra struggled).
  • Safety received a nearly perfect rating of 4.8 out of 5.
  • Reliability received a rating of 4.7 out of 5.
  • Technology received a rating of 4.4 out of 5.

These final ratings were determined by averaging all the individual owners ratings.

I have a close friend that owned an Elantra and he was very happy with every component. He understood that the vehicle was not going to be a “race car”; therefore the modest horsepower it possesses was not an issue for him. There was one thing that he disliked about the vehicle. You see, he is over six foot tall, and the Elantra is not small, but it is “snug”. Sometimes if his wife drives the vehicle for the day, he must adjust the seat before getting in, or he will simply not fit.

If you are looking for a vehicle that is both cheap to purchase and cost effective to keep running (very high gas mileage), the 2016 Hyundai Elantra is a perfect fit for you and your family. If you’re looking for a vehicle to drag race at your local track on the weekends, the Hyundai Elantra 2016 edition (even the “Sport” model) is probably not the correct fit for you.

The New 2016 Hyundai ElantraHow has the Hyundai Elantra Evolved?

The Elantra series (like many other Hyundai vehicles) has gone through a series of generations, three to be exact. The first generation was produced from 1990-1995, the second generation was produced from 1995-2000 and the third generation was produced from 2000 to present. The third generation has received a few “facelifts” to make the vehicle look more modern.

First Generation:

The first generation Elantra (codename J1) had 112 horsepower at 6,500 RPM’s. The original could push the vehicle to 60 miles per hour in 9.5 seconds (at 6,000 RPM’s). The first generation came standard with a manual transmission, with the option of an automatic transmission In. 1992 was a very important year for the First generation Elantra, it received a full make over, including a new more “streamline” body type and a engine that had more power (both, horsepower and torque).

Second Generation:

The second generation was launched in 1992 (codename J2) was offered as both, a station wagon and a sedan. This broadened the market for the Elantra; no longer was the Elantra a small sedan for young drivers, or first time drivers. Now it could be used as a family vehicle as well. A new engine was also placed in the “J2”; this new engine allowed the vehicle to burn fuel more efficiently (it was considered to be more “lean), this in turn, increased the vehicle fuel economy.

Third Generation:

Just like the first two generations, the third generation Elantra was “refreshed” and given a new code name (XD2). This model was refreshed with some new headlights, new grilles, new front and rear bumpers and a fully re-designed dashboard. Once again, just like with the previous generations, the fuel economy was increased again (making this vehicle one of the “leanest” on the US market).

2016 Elantra Final Thoughts

This vehicle is really cool, it provides a perfect solution to people that are looking for a car that is cheap and will save them a ton of money over time with incredible fuel efficiency. In my opinion, this vehicle is great for the first time driver, or someone who has to travel long distances for work!
