2011 Nissan Cube Improvements

The 2011 Nissan Cube is a spacious and versatile hatchback with a design that no one has ever seen before. Some consider it adventurous, while others simply hate it. You will most likely be one of the two. However even if you don’t like it, the car does have some very nice features that appeals to anyone.

When looking at the pros we can say that it has ample passenger space, it is a joy to park, the performance is reasonable, the standard features are impressive and the company offers several customization options that you won’t find elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the handling is still soggy, like last year’s version. The cons also include bad quality interior materials. It’s less versatile and it has less cargo capacity when compared against the competition. It also seems like they haven’t solved that excessive wind noise issue.

When compared with the 2010 model, the 2011 Nissan Cube comes with a better integrated navigation system that includes real time traffic updates and the addition of the USB audio interface is definitely going to be appreciated by those that want to buy it.

Performance and Powertrain

We are sure that you want to know what the 2011 Cube is capable of before you even consider buying. This model is equipped with a pretty interesting four-cylinder engine that can produce 122 hp and has 1.8 L. On the S trim and the base trim you will get a standard six-speed manual transmission and a CVT (continuously variable automatic transmission) is optional. The CVT system is automatically included as standard on Krom and SL.

During various performance tests that were done it was shown that this year’s Cube can go to 60 miles per hour in just 9.7 seconds, which is basically average in the class but a slight bump from last year’s 2010 model. The estimated fuel economy is of 27 miles per gallon in the city and around 31 mpg while driving on the highway with the CVT system. The manual gearbox puts out 25 and 30 mpg respectively.

The Nissan Cube has also always been known to be a very safe car and this year is no different. You will be happy to learn the fact that all the 2011 Nissan Cube cars have great standard security features included. The best features are traction control, stability control, airbags for the front and side, antilock brakes (on the drum for the rear and on the disc in the front) and the active front head restraints. During safety tests the 2011 Nissan Cube manages to bring in very good results but in this class, they are only average, with some models being better.

Special Features and Design

Nissan Cube 2011The 2011 Cube exterior is definitely a head turner which is combined with a basic cabin design with softer curves. You can opt for an optional mood lighting package that includes 20 different colors.

The simplicity of the layout and the climate control is really easy to use thanks to the old-school, three-knob style. All seats are fitted comfortably for a longer drive and for a person of any height thanks to the height of the vehicle.

Driving Impressions

This is a deciding factor in most cases and purchasing a Cube is mostly dependent on where you plan to drive it. In city traffic, you will surely appreciate the drive mostly due to CVT, which helps out the engine superbly. The problem appears however on the highway. You will end up hearing wind noise because of the shape of the car and you might not get precise steering in tough curves either. The suspension is also very soft so when you hit a bump, you might feel it a little more than one would like. There have been some improvements on this in the 2012 Nissan Cube however.
